HDL – High Density Lipoprotein


Our EcovaPure™ HDLh (High-Density Lipoprotein) is primarily used as a nutraceutical supplement and contains a minimum 75% high density lipopeptide molecules. HDL from egg yolk is proven to support a healthy heart and circulatory system when ingested as a nutritional supplement. When HDL is absorbed into the bloodstream it removes harmful cholesterol from the arteries and improves the lipid profile of the blood.

HDL is known as the “good cholesterol” because it’s function is to remove “bad” cholesterol from the blood and carry it to the liver to be broken down into bile salt.

Increased HDL levels in the blood also encourage the body to make even more HDL molecules. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory for the blood vessels, keeping them healthy.

Studies have shown that consuming HDL, either directly or through egg yolks, does increase HDL levels in the blood. They have also shown that consuming HDL through egg yolks also decreases insulin in the blood, supporting the health of individuals with type II diabetes.

When HDL is hydrolyzed into HDLh the HDL molecules are reformed into smaller ones which makes it more “bioavailable” or more easily absorbed into the blood.

About HDL:

HDL stands for High-Density Lipoproteins, which are also known as the “good cholesterol” because they remove Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDLs) and macrophages from the blood and artery walls, preventing a buildup of “plaque”.

This “plaque” can restrict blood flow in arteries, leading to high blood pressure, or completely close off smaller blood vessels, leading to heart attacks and strokes.

Many studies and clinical trials show that increasing HDL levels can help reduce risk of heart attack, stroke, and peripheral artery disease.

The primary function of HDL’s is to remove excess “bad” cholesterol from the blood vessels (and plaque) and carry it to the liver to be metabolized into bile salt, also known as reverse cholesterol transport.

High HDL levels also stimulate more natural HDL production and improve endothelial function (acting as an anti-inflammatory for blood vessels).
LDLs and HDLs are both found in egg yolk, which is why egg yolks are thought to be “high in cholesterol”.
