OvaPure™ Egg Yolk Isolate Emulsifier

Overview

OvaPure™ is our premium powdered egg oil for cosmetic formulations. The powder form reduces the “egg” smell often associated with egg oil and makes it easy to work with. Since it contains lecithin (phopholipids), it is a natural emulsifier in oil and water based products.

OvaPure™ dissolves quickly in water, and is extremely stable in both o/w and w/o emulsions. It can also encapsulate water- or oil-soluble active ingredients in a water based lotion or cream, delivering them deeper into the skin. It  meets consumer preferences for a non-GMO product which is extracted without the use of any harsh solvents, high temperatures, or high pressures that would denature the product. This makes it an excellent clean-label ingredient.

Due to INCI labelling requirements in some jurisdictions, OvaPure™ often must be separated into its component parts on labels. The INCI Monograph ID numbers are 964, 9720, and 4649 for egg oil (55%), hydrolyzed egg protein (25%), and phospholipids (20%) respectively.

Skin and Scalp Benefits of Powdered Egg Oil:

Though relatively new to the West, egg oil has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years in many cultures around the world. Phospholipids and peptides, however, are much more common in cosmetics formulations. This product is a one stop shop for all the nutrients skin cells need to function optimally – fats, phospholipids, cholesterol, antioxidants, and amino acids!

Check out our blog post about the cosmetic applications of Ecovatec products for more information about the specific benefits of each component as well as our white papers below.

As you can see in the summary chart below, the fats in egg yolk (all contained in OvaPure™) are anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, acne fighting, healing, moisturizing, penetration enhancers, promoting of skin elasticity and plumpness, protective against damage and bacteria, and soothing for itchy skin conditions.

About Phospholipids:

Each component of OvaPure™ also offers a different functional benefit to cosmetic formulations. Phospholipids (lecithin) are a well known emuslifier and many of the fatty acids are emollients or texture enhancers. OvaPure™’s cholesterol is excellent for stabilizing formulations and it acts as an emollient and water-binding agent. The hydrolyzed egg protein (peptides) and carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin) provide antioxidants and crucial nutrients to skin cells.

Applications

To date, OvaPure™ has been formulated into lotions, body balms, and face creams. However, this ingredient is versatile, with many possible cosmetics applications for skin, scalp, and hair.

Egg oil has also been studied extensively for it’s medicinal/cosmeceutical effects. Specifically for improving inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, wound healing, burn treatment, and pain-reduction. While we do not make these medical claims for our ingredient, we have studied the available scientific literature extensively and have summarized the research in our white papers below.
